Dealing with Procrastination

Everyday we go through checklists full of tasks we need to do, and very often we find that there are some tasks that we don’t seem to get around to until at the very last moment, when the deadline is near. Why is it that we seem to just keep moving tasks ahead of us rather than getting them done? How can we find the best time of the day to do our tasks? Can we make a planner for ourselves that we can keep to?

In this seminar we will look at the origins of procrastination, where we delay tasks until their deadline. We will discuss in which situations we are more or less likely to move tasks forward, and how we can choose the best time to get our work done. We will also look into a number of strategies that help mitigate procrastination, and who we can look to for help.

This seminar consist of two parts; a 2-hour seminar and then a 1-hour follow-up session where we discuss the results and possible improvements. The seminar consists of the following elements:

  • Origins of procrastination and why we delay tasks
  • Perspectives on delaying from behaviorism and cognitivism
  • Time and place as a factor in procrastination
  • Goal-setting, rewards and habit-forming
  • Planning and strategies to get work done
  • Social assistance and accountabilites
